Release of Synapse v3 Beta 1!

by savage | 2026-06-30

Today marks the beta release of Synapse v3, The Vertex Project’s third major version release and major feature expansion in support of evolving analysis needs. Synapse v3 is full of new features and enhancements, from data model and UI updates to Cortex storage and performance upgrades. Arguably the most consequential improvements for Synapse users are those made to the data model, which we refactored to strengthen analysts’ ability to accurately and realistically capture real world data. With this beta release, we invite teams to take the opportunity to review changes, provide us with feedback, and prepare for the general release of Synapse v3.

Included in the Release

The beta release includes all of the open-source Synapse services as well as their newly introduced Synapse Enterprise counterparts. Subsequent beta releases will add additional Advanced Power-Ups (like Synapse-Enterprise-Fileparser). With these beta releases, teams have the opportunity to review changes and provide feedback prior to the Synapse v3 release, which will include all of the open-source and Synapse Enterprise service images.

The v3 Data Model

This beta release highlights an updated data model designed to provide analysts with greater flexibility, accuracy, and consistency in representing various types of data and navigating the graph. Although this beta release also includes other Synapse v3 features, this particular release is an opportunity for teams to review the updated data model, familiarize themselves with the changes, and provide us with feedback so that we may make changes if necessary.

Teams can review the release notes and Synapse v3 user documentation (note that these are also a beta release, and we are currently in the process of updating them), as well as download the beta release from The Vertex Project’s Github repository and deploy it to an internal development Cortex for review. In preparation for transitioning to v3, Teams may also take the opportunity to plan for any necessary updates to any existing custom power-ups, automation, macros, and other saved Storm logic in preparation for the General Availability Synapse v3.

Optic v3

This beta release also includes Optic v3, the Synapse Enterprise UI, which features multiple improvements designed to facilitate analyst workflows. Some of these updates include changes to better represent different kinds of data and provide greater contextual awareness of light edges. Users can now choose from a range of color themes, and benefit from various quality of life updates that improve user experience when working with markdown and other components. Other improvements include the introduction of new features, such as Tombstoning, which allows analysts to delete underlying data (nodes, property values, tags) without leaving their forked view - making deletions both easier and safer as analysts have the chance to review before committing the changes.

Teams can review Optic v3 user documentation and changelog for a full list of changes in Optic v3, although, as with Synapse v3, this user documentation is also a beta release that we are in the process of updating.
